The Traveling Huntley's 4-2-2013

The happy couple leaving home.

This is the place where we stayed the first night near South Center that I mentioned in the previous report. Their offer for free parking for two weeks is hard to beat. In addition, their staff was wonderful as you will read shortly.

We had an enjoyable flight from SeaTac on one of Alaska Airlines newest planes, a Boeing 737-900 which was only one week old.  Yes, someone in the crowd did ask if it had been tested and someone else asked if they had checked the batteries, but it was a very nice and comfortable flight.

Dinner our first night in  Orlando was at a Cuban restaurant. Excellent dinner and the bill was presented in a wooden cigar box....
No cigar, but a nice touch!

Tuesday April 2nd is our first day at Epcot Center.  Having an engineering background, I am totally amazed with the design and operation of this play ground for both adults and children.  I have no idea as to what their payroll is but it must be enormous when you think of all the employees they need from mechanics for maintaining the many buses to the many people just keeping the grounds clean.

We arrived around 10 am and was directed into our parking space, somewhat like cattle being driven into their stalls.  Unfortunately with all the excitement of arriving at our destination I failed to take note where we parked our rental car.

Many hours later, with feet that ached and being in total darkness, we proceeded to find our needle in the haystack.  If you can imagine around 5,000 cars parked in this mega parking lot and the two of us walking around clicking our remote key bog trying to get one of the many car horns to honk.  I must say we were not alone as there was a sea of little horn chirps.  Fortunately the Disney organization is prepared for visitors like us and they quickly drove around and found our car.

It is amazing what they create with all the flowers available.

This is one of the exhibits that we enjoyed.  We had obtained a "Fast Pass" ticket earlier so the line was not that bad.  Normal waiting time was around 90 minutes... In this ride, using computers, you initially design your own test car using the various options they have available on the computer screen. Next comes the fun part, the two of you sit in a car that actually goes out in a test track that puts you through various scenarios such as braking, swerving, etc and eventually you actually are out on a straight section where your achieve 65 mph going into a tight turn and then the ride is over.  At the end you are able to see how your car design compares to the other riders in your group..the only thing that we concluded is that we suck at designing a car.  Ours came in next to last....

Shirl says that I am a lot like Walt, just a big kid at heart.  I agree!!

We both liked this saying.

Boy, did we get a lot of good ideas for our yard.  Beautiful flowers everywhere.

We now come back to the initial comment about the staff at the Towne Place "Suites in South Center.  During our enjoyable day at Epcot Center I realized that I had failed to take a spare camera battery with me when we left the hotel this morning.  While that was disappointing,  the real disaster came when we returned to our hotel room to discover the camera bag with the various cables and spare batteries was not in our suitcases.  After going through a mental check of all the possibilities of where we (actually that means me!) might have left it we called the hotel in South Center and they were able to check with Housekeeping and sure enough they advised us we had left the bag in our room.  Having previously dealt with housekeeping staff before and items are never found we were very relived to have them discover the bag there.

Tomorrow we head back to Disney's World to visit the Disney Hollywood.
